The project

Play Serious – Act Moral is a research project of Hochschule Campus Wien. It centres on the serious moral game “EthiCare”, in which students of health and nursing care experience ethical decisions in realistic case examples and then reflect on them with guidance.

Project duration: 1 January 2025 to 31 January 2028

Funding: City of Vienna, MA 23 (universities of applied sciences and their funding, in German)

Project goals

Development and design of a serious moral game for use in ethics teaching

The serious moral game (“EthiCare”) is used to train ethical competence to act in the course ETDIV of the Bachelor's programme in Health and Nursing Care.

Promoting moral and ethical competences

EthiCare effectively promotes the further development of the students' moral and ethical competences while providing an entertaining and engaging learning environment.

EthiCircle: interdisciplinary perspectives

Two “EthiCircles” are held between nursing and technology students to develop interdisciplinary perspectives on the game and on ethical questions.

The EthiCircles

In the EthiCircle we test an interprofessional teaching format that also serves to develop and evaluate the game. Students of health and nursing care (2nd semester) and of the programme Computer Science and Digital Communications (CSDC, 6th semester) work together on ethical case constellations and develop ideas for the story lines of the game.

Students sit around a laptop and watch a scene of the game

We report on the individual sessions under News.
